A new festival, Theatre Frontier, comes to Rosehill Theatre in Whitehaven from 10 to 17 May 2025 with the aim "to bring high-quality, contemporary theatre to West Cumbria in a way that’s inclusive, local and genuinely useful for the community".

The week will feature practical workshops including an acting masterclass with actor Emma Rydal and a theatre writing workshop with Liz Richardson as well as performances, including Richardson's play Local, which draws on the writer's memories of growing up in West Cumbria.

Also featured is A Beginner's Guide to Widowhood, a "moving and funny solo show about grief", along with a 'play in a day' challenge and a showcase of early career artists connected to the region.

Jen Garrick, Rosehill’s CEO, said, “we’re not only bringing world-class contemporary theatre to West Cumbria—some of it written right here—we’re also excited for our community to get involved through accessible, affordable workshops.”
