“Thrilling prospect”: Sophie Jane Corner

Sophie Jane Corner has been appointed a Nottingham Playhouse Amplify associate as part of its artist development programme.

She is an actor and physical theatre specialist, with strong roots in the East Midlands. Her professional development included masterclasses with Frantic Assembly. She produced and created It’s Nott Working in 2024, a networking event for East Midlands creatives from multiple disciplines.

Nottingham Playhouse’s artist development producer Beccy D’Souza said, “each Amplify associate brings their own skills and interests. Sophie is already a key figure in Amplify, having co-created the Actors Collective last year, a new venture that’s really thriving.

“Sophie brings ideas, commitment and enthusiasm and has a real desire to invest in both herself as an artist and the wider artistic community, particularly in Nottingham. We’re really pleased to have her on board. She’s at a relatively early stage in her career and it feels like a good moment for this partnership.”

The Amplify programme supports writers, performers and directors who are given the opportunity to focus on a particular project or aspect of their work. They then create opportunities for other artists in the region to do the same in a mutually beneficial exchange.

Corner commented, “I’m really excited to become an Amplify associate, with the opportunities it offers to develop my craft personally and also to lift up fellow artists from the local community. There’s so much talent in Amplify and finding more ways to harness, celebrate and nurture that is a thrilling prospect.”

Nottingham Playhouseis also holding open auditions to expand its casting pool of performers for future projects. Anyone aged 18 and above who has trained or worked professionally and was born, raised or is currently living in the Midlands can apply for an audition slot. The closing date is Wednesday 5 March. Full details are on the Nottingham Playhouse web site.
