Nancy Harris’s Our New Girl is to be revived by Belfast’s Lyric Theatre with Rhiann Jeffrey directing. It was first seen at London’s Bush Theatre in 2012 when The Guardian described it as “an unsettling, engrossing psychological drama”.
The production marks a homecoming of sorts for the Irish screenwriter and playwright whose adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Red Shoes was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s recent Christmas season.
Our New Girl is described as “a startling psychological drama with sharp wit [that] explores the darker side of modern parenthood” and promises to leave audiences “on the edge of your seat”.
It marks Jeffrey’s first return to the Lyric since directing Amanda Verlaque’s This Sh*t Happens All The Time in 2022.
The cast includes Lisa Dwyer Hogg, Mark Huberman and Jeanne Nicole Ní Áinle, with young actors Canice Doran and Milo Payne sharing the role of Hogg and Huberman’s stage son.
Design elements will be provided by Maree Kearns (set and costumes), Sarah Jane Shiels (lighting), and Garth McConaghie (sound), with choreography by Paula O’Reilly and Debra Hill as Assistant Director.
Our New Girl runs at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast from April 8 to May 4.
