Dave Kirby, writer of seven hit shows at Liverpool's Royal Court Theatre including Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels, Council Depot Blues and Reds & Blues, is back with a sequel to Lost Soul from 16 August to 14 September 2024.

Smigger’s having a mid-life crisis. All he wants to do is roll back the years and dance to '70s soul music with Donna, Terry and Pat. But since the grandkid came along, Donna hasn’t been interested in their usual Sunday nights in town (or much else).

Their daughter hasn’t helped, lumbering them with the baby most weekends while she's out with the dad. Well, maybe the dad (it’s a one in four chance). Smigger's had enough, his head’s wrecked and he’s not having it any more.

Kirby said, “it’s hard to believe that 18 years have passed since Brick up the Mersey Tunnels opened at the Royal Court and transformed the building into the people’s theatre. That’s where it all began for me. Now, seven hit shows later, it’s great to be back with the second run of Lost Soul 2, Smigger’s Wrecked Head.

“After the huge success of the first Lost Soul, I always shied away from writing a sequel, but I’m now so glad I did. I wrote the sequel in such a way that people don't need to have seen the first play.

"It was last staged here back in 2019 and Smigger (Andrew Schofield) still can’t get his wrecked head out of the 1970s! I’ve updated the script with fresh jokes and moved the main hub from Smokie Mo’s to the popular Soul Train bar.”
