World Ballet Day Live Streaming 1 October

The first ever World Ballet Day on Wednesday 1 October sees unprecedented access behind the scenes across five of the world's leading ballet companies.

The Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet give us a peep into daily class and rehearsal studios to see what goes on before curtain up in a 24-hour live stream on 1 October 2014.

Hosted by George Lamb, the four hours (11AM-3PM BST) from Covent Garden will show Laura Morera and Steven McRae in rehearsal with Liam Scarlett on his new work, The Age of Anxiety, which premières 7 November.

Carlos Acosta will be coaching Vadim Muntagirov for his role in Don Quixote. Marianela Nuñez and Federico Bonelli will be rehearsing Manon for the Live Cinema screening on 16 October.

Resident Royal Ballet Choreographer Wayne McGregor will be interviewed on his first full-length work for the Company, Woolf Works, based on Virginia Woolf's writings and life.

The full company will be seen rehearsing Christopher Wheeldon's Aeternum and Frederick Ashton's Scènes de ballet, and Ludovic Ondiviela his first Royal Ballet commission, Cassandra, which opens in October as part of the Linbury Studio programme.

Highlights from The Australia Ballet will be rehearsals of Graeme Murphy's Swan Lake, Stanton Welch's La Bayadere, Peter Wright's The Nutcracker, and Artistic Director David McAllister will be on hand to answer questions.

The Bolshoi will be rehearsing Jean-Christophe Maiilot's The Taming of the Shrew and Yuri Grigorovich's Legend of Love.

The National Ballet of Canada will feature Anthony Dowell, on whom the role of Des Grieux was created forty years ago, coaching Kenneth MacMillan's Manon. John Neumeier's Nijinsky will also be in rehearsal.

There will be interviews with Artistic Director Karen Kain amongst others and a view into the wardrobe, therapy, pointe shoes departments to give a sense of the dancer's day.

San Francisco will be live streaming rehearsals for Yuri Possikov's RAkU, William Forsythe's The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, Helgi Tomassón's Concerto Gross, and more. There will be a series of interviews with SF artists and artistic staff.

Viewers will be able to spot the different styles of the companies, interact via Twitter, and even submit film of themselves doing a pirouette...

The stream will be available via YouTube and at www.roh.org.uk/worldballetday.
