Welsh National Opera will return to Swansea for the first time in a decade during its 2024/25 tour, which will also take the company to Birmingham, Llandudno, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Plymouth and Southampton.

The season will open in Cardiff on Saturday 21 September with a new production of Verdi’s Rigoletto by Port Talbot-born Adele Thomas, making her WNO directorial debut.

Also in the programme are Puccini’s triptych of one-act operas—Suor Angelica, Il Tabarro and the comedy Gianni Schicchi—a new production of Peter Grimes by Britten and a revival of Max Hoehn’s production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.

Other performances include concerts featuring popular arias from films and a New Year tour of Viennese favourites.

As well as hosting the Mozart opera, Swansea Grand Theatre will stage the opening performance of the company’s family show, Play Opera LIVE, on St David’s Day, 1 March 2025.
