Return to the Forbidden Planet (Darlington Civic Theatre)

Opera North returns to the Theatre Royal in Newcastle this week with four productions: a double bill of Gianni Schicchi and La Vida Breve on Tuesday, La Traviata on Wednesday and Friday and The Marriage of Figaro on Thursday and Saturday.

First in 3, a scratch night of five works-in-progress, is in Stage 3 at Northern Stage on Thursday.

Fleabag, presented by DryWrite & Soho Theatre, comes to Live Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed on Thursday by Write Stuff, new plays written by 13- to 15-year-old pupils from Furrowfield School in Gateshead, performed as script-in-hand performances by a cast of professional actors and members of Live’s Youth Theatre.

On Thursday Dance City presents Northern Platforms, excerpts from new dance being created in the North East, Yorkshire, the North West and Scotland.

From Tuesday to Saturday the Watermill production of Calamity Jane comes to Sunderland Empire.

On Wednesday NE graduate dance company Fertile Ground will perform works by Tom Dale (A New Chimera) and Eleesha Drennan (Shields of Bone), and two new pieces created by the company: NOW (choreographed by Artistic Director Dora Frankel) and Land (choreographed by company member Alys North) at Sunderland College's Bede Campus at 7PM.

Tangled Feet presents Kicking and Screaming at Arts Centre Washington on Thursday at 7:30 and Friday at 1:30.

Community production Dance to Your Daddy is at the Customs House in South Shields from Tuesday to Saturday.

On Friday at 2PM and 8PM Queen's Hall Arts presents Frank Sumatra at the Queen's Hall in Hexham.

On Thursday at ARC Stockton Keziah Serreau and Turtle Key Arts present Strike!, a circus theatre show. This production is part of the venue's Pay What You Decide scheme. On Saturday at 11:30AM and 2:30PM Garlic Theatre presents Shoe Kangaroo & The Big Bad Boot, a play with mime, clowning and puppets for age 4+.

The 25th anniversary tour of Return to the Forbidden Planet comes to Darlington Civic from Tuesday to Saturday.

On Friday Townsend Productions presents United We Stand at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond.

Harrogate Theatre's production of Edith in the Dark returns to the venue from Friday until 14 March and on Friday, in the Studio, there will be a performance of Secret Diaries from New Wolsey Theatre and supported by Contact and The Lowry.
