Unlimited at the North Wall The North Wall is a new arts centre in Oxford, the brainchild of leading film composer George Fenton (Gandhi, Fight Club, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) and has the ambition of building a national network of young people through a shared passion for the arts. The venue's website tells us that "The North Wall Arts Centre is an inspirational new building dedicated to the provision of an array of cultural events, educational opportunities and world-class performances for the people of Oxford and beyond. The venues aim is to nurture new talent, to inspire young people to participate in the arts, and to break down barriers to making a career in the arts industry. For 20 weeks each year, professional performances will deliver the inspiration, and the funds, to provide free educational and creative opportunities for young people across the UK." The venue's steering committee includes Judi Dench, Richard Attenborough and Timberlake Werternbaker. As part of the three-week festival which launches the venue on 2nd July, Unlimited Theatre (Neutrino, Zero Degrees & Drifting, Safety) will be perfoming a new play, The Swing Left by Steven Dykes from a devising process with the company on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th July. Over the course of one long weekend in early 1946, The Swing Left tells the story of six people finding their way in a radically changed world. Set against the political backdrop of a massive landslide victory for Labour in the general election and filled with the swing music and dance of its time, the play paints a vivid picture of England in the immediate aftermath of the 2nd World War. The play was commissioned specially for the festival and, according to artistic director Jon Spooner, "It's a stunning building and an outstanding play which we have a truly brilliant cast and company working on." The play is directed by writer Steven Dykes and Jon Spooner and the cast is Sarah Belcher, Clare Duffy, Lucy Ellinson, Gareth Kieran Jones, Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe.
