The Umbrellas of Cherbourg in Leicester and London Kneehigh Theatre is to bring their new stage adaptation of Jacques Demy and Michel Legrands The Umbrellas of Cherbourg to The Curve in Leicester and London's Gielgud Theatre. The show will play in Leicester from 11th to 26th February and will open at the Gielgud on 22nd March (previews from 5th), booking initially until 1st October. The cast will be led by Joanna Riding as Madame Emery and cabaret artist Meow Meow as Lola. Also in the cast are Carly Bawden (Genevieve), Gareth Charlton (Sailor), Andrew Durand (Guy), Cynthia Erivo (Madelaine), Dominic Marsh (Cassard), Aki Omoshaybi (Sailor) and ensemble members Laura Brydon and Matt Wilman. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is directed by Emma Rice, with lyrics translated by Sheldon Harnick, designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Malcolm Rippeth, sound by Simon Baker and musical supervision by Nigel Lilley.
