The Year of the Dame - Panto Day celebrates this special role

Oh yes it is! 11 December is Panto Day 2015, the day when all things panto are celebrated nationally and internationally.

This year, Panto Day will pay special tribute to the role of Dame with a new docu-feature exploring what it means to be and play Dame today and six new Dame-related articles written by the industry's leading practitioners featuring on the Panto Day advice page.

For some weeks now, Dames have been nominated by the general public for #dameoftheday, a showcase of Dame talent on Twitter at @Panto_Day and on Facebook showing the transition from actor to costumed Dame.

Traditionally, Panto Day sees social media teeming with activity: behind-the-scenes tweeting, special blogs, interviews, Q&As, competitions and of course the return of the global phenomena which are the #pantopout and #pantoplank, whilst theatres host special events and offer Panto Day themed activities such as Design a Dame Dress colouring sheets, crosswords and wordsearches.

Panto Day Founder Simon Sladen said, "we can't wait to see what cross-dressed capers ensue this year as Panto Day celebrates its fifth anniversary. The Year of the Dame is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate one of Pantoland's best loved roles and shine a spotlight on what makes her so special."
