The Scouse Red Riding Hood

Liverpool's Royal Court sold 12,000 tickets for its next adult panto, Scouse Red Riding Hood, within 24 hours of going on sale.

It's written by Kevin Fearon and directed by Mark Chatterton with musical direction from Howard Gray, who were behind The Scouse Cinderella, The Scouse Snow White and The Scouse Jack & The Beanstalk.

Christmas is coming and nan is laid up as her sciatica is giving her gyp. It’s down to Little Red and her mate Big Blue to get out to her cottage in Spinney Woods with a proper scran. There are strange creatures that lurk in Spinney Woods but they meet a lad with a big chopper who makes them feel safe.

Fearon, who is also the Court's Executive Producer, said, "the Christmas show regularly sells out, but to see such enthusiasm at Easter does give you a little boost! Last year’s show came on the back of a record breaking year at the Royal Court, but we’re always very aware at the Royal Court that this is a two-way street. We are passionate about our audience and giving them a brilliant night out, and we’re lucky our audience is just as determined to have a great time."

The show runs from 8 November 2024 to 18 January 2025. Also running at Christmas in the Royal Court Studio are It's A Wonderful Life from Old Fruit Jar Productions, based on the 1946 film, from 19 to 30 November and Stocking Fillers, seven new short plays written by members of the theatre's writing groups, from 13 to 29 December.
