Ronald Magill Dies at 87 Actor Ronald Magill, best known for playing Amos Brearly, the landlord of The Woolpack in the TV soap Emmerdale, for almost twenty years, has died at the age of 87. Born in Hull, he began his stage career at Nottingham Playhouse in 1963, later becoming its artistic director, before joining Emmerdale for its first episode in 1972. He left the series in 1991 but made occasional returns throughout the 90s.
