The Gateshead International Festival of Theatre (GIFT) has failed to secure Arts Council funding for 2015 due to "competition for funds."

"Without this support in place," said Kate Craddock, the Festival Director, "unfortunately we are unable to go ahead with this year's festival as planned, and instead, we will be focussing our energies towards fundraising for GIFT 2016."

GIFT was founded in 2011 by Kate Craddock to offer an immediate cultural and creative response to the re-development of the area. The festival aims to develop artists and audiences in the north east by programming performances that otherwise would not be seen in the region, and by providing opportunities and spaces for dialogue and exchange.

It took place over a weekend, running from Friday to Sunday, in a variety of venues both indoors and out.
