Write for Your Life: the Playwriting Competition

A new theatre company in Nottingham is inviting playwrights and directors to enter Write for Your Life: the Playwriting Competition.

Thomas Moore, former associate producer at the Old Red Lion in Islington, has formed The Theatre Studio. Its first project will involve six new playwrights and directors competing to win a commission to create a piece of work in late 2015.

Thomas Moore said, “Nottingham is a city buzzing with an abundance of talent. Many large arts organisations are producing world-class art, dance and theatre but we’re lacking a small-scale theatre focusing on nurturing the next generation of theatre-makers.

“Having worked in fringe and commercial theatre, I’ve established The Theatre Studio to create and champion urgent and exciting work in a sustainable way. There is a real appetite for the arts in Nottingham and we looking forward to opening a space where the audience can experience theatre on an intimate scale so familiar to fringe theatregoers.

Write For your Life is not only about developing young playwrights and directors from Nottinghamshire and the Midlands but is also about allowing audiences to have a real say in the work they pay to see on the stage.”

The Theatre Studio is looking to create a full-time home in Nottingham city centre. Write for Your Life will be staged in March 2015 at a pop-up location.

More details about the competition are available at The Theatre Studio web site.
