Why Dance Matters podcast

The Royal Academy of Dance has launched series nine of its podcast Why Dance Matters, beginning with Misty Copeland, the American Ballet Theatre's first black principal dancer, joining host David Jays to discuss her journey so far and imminent return to the stage.

Also featured in the new series are choreographer Aakash Odedra, performance psychologist Britt Tajet-Foxell and Crazy Smooth in the lead up to his new show's run at the Southbank Theatre.

Mike Wayama, who has taken RAD ballet to Nairobi, shares his stories on mentorship and teaching in challenging environments. Birmingham Royal Ballet dancer Eilis Smallwilldiscuss her Australian origins and next steps.

Misty Copeland's episode is now live on all major platforms. Future episodes from series nine will be released weekly.
