Stones for Broadway?
Marie Jones's hit Stones in His Pockets (New Ambassadors) is rumoured to be in line for a Broadway transfer. Probably the lowest-budget show in the West End (two actors, no scenery, very few props), it has received an enthusiastic welcome from critics and public alike.
Hall "as wooden as a toothpick"
So "Daily Mail" writer Quentin Letts described Jerry Hall's acting after her first performance in The Graduate (Gielgud), when she took over from Kathleen Turner. The kindest thing said about her performance (by "Express" writer David Smith) was that "some might have found her performance a case of more style than substance."
Bonham Carter in Apes remake
According to US industry newspaper "Variety", Helena Bonham Carter is to star with Mark Wahlberg and Tim Roth in a remake of Planet of the Apes. The film is expected to start shooting later this year and to be released in summer 2001.
Baby Doll to continue after all
In spite of the announcement last week that the production of Tennessee William's Baby Doll at the Albery would finish on 26th August, a new booking period, to 30th September, has been announced.
Notre Dame extends
Critically lambasted Notre Dame de Paris has announed a new booking period from 1st November to 31st March 2001.
Mayall for the West End?
A Family Affair, a new comedy by Agnes Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri, which will star Rik Mayall, is rumoured to be heading for the West End in the Autumn.
