Julia Knight in Zeit-Heist: More Than a Feeling

Comedy performer, musician and psychologist Julia Knight is to take her second solo show, Zeit-Heist: More Than a Feeling to Buxton.

Zeit-heist is the feeling you get when something that you really enjoy—your hobby, interest, favourite singer or food—suddenly becomes extremely popular and it seems as if everyone else is into it. What previously felt like your niche interest is now a mainstream fad.

Knight started exploring this concept when she realised there was no word to explain the mixed feelings involved. She said, “I knew I should be happy that other people liked what I liked but I wasn’t—it felt as if they had somehow stolen my joy.”

The show uses songs to delve into the concept of zeit-heist through Julia’s personal experiences involving gin, avocados and Kate Bush. There is also an explanation of the psychology of zeit-heist via Julia’s alter-ego, the academic Dr Yulia Ridder. The audience is encouraged to join in at various points to discuss their own zeit-heists.

Knight, who lives in Fife, Scotland, took her first solo show I Am Not Victoria Wood to Brighton and Edinburgh fringe festivals.

Zeit-Heist: More Than a Feeling, presented by Pepita Productions in association with Sweet Productions, will be staged at Underground Venues, the Springs shopping centre, Buxton on Sunday 14 July at 1PM, Monday 15 July at 7PM and Tuesday 16 July at 5:30PM.
