Harriet Walter joins Death of a Salesman in Stratford

Harriet Walter has joined the cast of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director Gregory Doran’s production which will be performed in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford in March 2015.

She will play Linda, the loyal wife of Willy Loman who tries to come to terms with his inability to accept change within himself and society.

Harriet Walter was last at the RSC in 2006 playing Cleopatra in Gregory Doran’s production of Antony and Cleopatra. She also appeared in the 2014 all-woman production of Henry IV at the Donmar Warehouse and Thomas Middleton’s Women Beware Women at the National in 2010.

As previously announced, Antony Sher and Alex Hassell return to the RSC after playing Falstaff and Prince Hal in Henry IV Parts I and II to take the roles of father and son Willy Loman and Biff.

Completing the Loman family as younger son Happy is Sam Marks who plays Poins in Henry IV Parts I and II which are running in London at the Barbican until 24 January.

The cast also includes Paul Birchard (older waiter), Ross Green (Stanley), Emma King (Miss Forsyth), Miranda Nolan (Letta), Sarah Parks (The Woman), Guy Paul (Uncle Ben), Joshua Richards (Charley) and Brodie Ross (Bernard).

The production is designed by newly appointed RSC director of design Stephen Brimson Lewis, with lighting by Tim Mitchell. The music is composed by Paul Englishby with sound by Martin Slavin.

Death of a Salesman previews in Stratford from Thursday 26 March. Press night is on Wednesday 1 April. It runs until Saturday 2 May.
