Last year, Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre was awarded one of the Theatres Trust small capital grants, which are given to address urgent building repairs, improve operational viability, introduce environmental improvements and enhance physical accessibility.
The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre received £5,000 towards the refurbishment and installation of automatic doors to improve accessibility through upgrading the main entrance to the theatre.
Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Director James Barber explained, "we have now completed works made possible by the grant to improve accessibility at the theatre for both theatregoers and the many visitors to the cafe and restaurant.
"The theatre front doors were worn and urgently needed repairing, so this grant has enabled us to upgrade the power-assisted doors so that they now open automatically on approach, allowing immediate access for those coming into the theatre which is a real improvement.
"Furthermore, we have been able to install a remote control door opener on the external door leading to the corridor which houses our disable access toilet facilities.
"The project has received the support of the Theatres Trust through its Theatres Protection Fund Small Grants Scheme, for which we are immensely grateful. It is vital that we look after the needs of our patrons, ensuring the Theatre is accessible to all members of our local community, and as such we are delighted that this grant has enabled us to do just that.
"The Theatres Trust carries out vital work in supporting and helping theatres all over the country and we're very grateful to them for their help and support to us."
