Fighting talk: Christopher Fairbank plays Ray

BAFTA-winning writer Geoff Thompson’s “personal and haunting” play The Pyramid Texts is to have its world première at Birmingham REP.

Christopher Fairbank plays Ray, who is alone in a boxing gym with a video camera. Recording the lessons learned from a lifetime in the ring, he is forced to lower his guard and face the feelings buried for years beneath his hardened exterior.

Fairbank trained at RADA and is probably best known for his role as Moxey in the television comedy-drama series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. His theatre credits include Alistair Beaton’s translation of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Neil Duffield’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol and Sam Shepard’s Curse Of The Starving Class, all at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh.

Directed by Michael Vale, The Pyramid Texts runs at Birmingham REP from Tuesday 26 until Saturday 30 May.
