Dench Heads Star-Studded Bristol Gala Dame Judi Dench is one of the star-studded cast for Shakespeare & Stratford, an evening of, prose, music, comedy and song devised by Paul Edmondson & Stanley Wells in aid of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Club's fundraising campaign on Sunday, 29th June 2008 at 7.30 p.m. Also in the cast are Martin Best, Jane Lapotaire, Barbara Leigh-Hunt and Richard Pasco. According to the publicity material, "The evening will be a humorous and entertaining journey, seen through the eyes and pens of such literary greats as Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf and Jane Austen, coupled with thespian insights from Kenneth Branagh, Donald Sinden and Spike Milligan. This evening of entertainment celebrates, debates and lampoons the world and works of the great bard himself." Ticket, ranging in from £10 to £60, are only available by postal booking or from the Save Bristol Old Vic website. They are not available over the telephone or from the theatre. Barbara Leigh-Hunt and Jane Lapotaire both trained at the Bristol Old Vic and Richard Pasco joined the Old Vic after training at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Martin Best as singer, guitarist, lutenist and actor has recreated the ancient art of the minstrel and troubadour. He has performed, devised and directed in theatres, concert halls and festivals in the UK and around the world. He is internationally recognised for his work on the songs and language of the medieval troubadours of Provence. Paul Edmondson is Head of Learning at The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and an Honorary Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute and Stanley Wells is Chairman of the Trustees of Shakespeare's Birthplace, Emeritus Professor of Shakespeare Studies at the University of Birmingham and Honorary Emeritus Governor of the RSC.
