Derby Theatre has announced that a “fresh and magical” production of Cinderella will be its Christmas production for 2015-16.

Mike Kenny’s adaptation will be inspired by the traditional Grimm’s fairy tale and will feature a group of actor-musicians in similar style to the 2014 festive show A Christmas Carol.

Charles Dickens’s classic has already broken box-office records at Derby Theatre. Almost 19,000 people have booked and all schools’ performances are sold out.

Sarah Brigham, the theatre’s artistic director who will direct Cinderella said, “I’m delighted to be bringing another classic tale to Derby audiences. The story is full of magic and sparkle and our version will be a fun and stylish interpretation for all the family.

“Our Cinderella will be feisty and ready to take on the world with a pack of mischievous rats, all who have the ability to sing and play live. Christmas is the time we see most people through our doors and we guarantee our audiences a joyful and festive time.”

Cinderella will run from Friday 4 December 2015 until Saturday 9 January 2016.
