The BFG: an eight-week run in Birmingham
Joshua Manning plays The BFG

A new staging of Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book The BFG will take to the stage at Birmingham REP for Christmas 2014.

The production involves a big, friendly giant snatching little Sophie out of her bed at night. His grisly neighbours, the Bloodbottler and the Fleshlumpeater, like nothing more than guzzling up human beans. But the BFG is a dream-maker and he is about to take Sophie on a journey she never expected.

The cast includes Joshua Manning as The BFG, with 11-year-olds Madeleine Haynes, Chloe Hawthorne and Lara Wollington sharing the role of young Sophie. They are joined by an ensemble of actor-musicians including Danny Chase, Jemma Geanaus, Mike Goodenough, Joey Hickman, T J Holmes, Nyron Levy, Natasha Lewis, Mei Mac and Nicolas Prasad.

Adapted for the stage by David Wood, The BFG will be directed by Teresa Ludovico. In 2013 she adapted and directed for the REP Phillip Pullman’s I Was A Rat!

Design will be by Robert Innes Hopkins, with lighting design by Peter Mumford. Frank Moon is the composer and sound design is by John Leonard. Martin Riley looks after musical direction and movement is by Yann Seabra.

The BFG runs at Birmingham REP from Wednesday 26 November until Saturday 24 January 2015. Press night will be on Tuesday 2 December.
