Newcastle's Northern Stage has announced its autumn 2014 season which runs from September to December.

The season opens with David Ireland's I Promise You Sex and Violence, directed by Lorne Campbell and described as a "brutally funny and frankly pretty offensive new play", which will run at Northern Stage's Edinburgh venue King's Hall in South Clerk Street before playing in Newcastle from 5 to 20 September.

The season ends on 3 January with something completely different, the theatre's annual Christmas show for the under-6s, The Christmas Grump, inspired by Dickens's A Christmas Carol and, as always, written by Susan Mulholland and directed by Mark Calvert with design by Andrew Stephenson. It opens on 15 November.
