I Wish To Die Singing – Voices From The Armenian Genocide

I Wish To Die Singing—Voices From The Armenian Genocide is to receive its world première next month at London's Finborough Theatre.

Playing for four weeks, this documentary drama commemorates the centenary of the Armenian Genocide which saw the death of up to one and a half million people.

Perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish Government, The Armenian Genocide of 1915-16 was an atrocity against the Christian minority in a Muslim state. The word 'genocide' was coined in 1944 by Jewish-Polish lawyer Raphael Lemkin to describe the events of 1915. To this day, the Turkish government refuses to admit that genocide ever took place.

The play is written by Finborough artistic director Neil McPherson. It includes eye-witness reportage, images, music, poetry from Armenia's greatest poets, and verbatim survivors' testimonies.

Tommo Fowler directs a cast comprised of Kate Binchy, Jilly Bond, Bevan Celestine, Siu-See Hung, Tamar Karabetyan, Tom Marshall and Simon Yadoo.

I Wish To Die Singing—Voices From The Armenian Genocide runs at the Finborough Theatre from 21 April to 16 May.
