News from the South East - August 2008 Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will be transformed into the magical world of Ratty, Mole, Badger and Road as Chichester Festival Youth Theatre take audiences on an outdoor promenade performance of Toad of Toad Hall from 4th to 16th August, in the grounds of the RR Cars manufacturing plant near Goodwood. The landscaped garden, lakes and courtyard of the 42 acre site will recreate the woodland animals haunts in various locations including the Wild Wood by Badgers House, the Rabbits play area, Rattys riverbank, the courtroom and the imposing Toad Hall. Sixty local children aged between eleven and nineteen will be directed by Dale Rooks, Youth Theatre Director, and a travelling band will accompany the performers.

At Guildford the Yvonne Arnaud is into its summer programme of films, but continues its holiday activities for children with, from August 4th, the fourteen to eighteen year olds in a comedy workshop which will look at all kinds of styles from stand-up comics to situation comedy acting.
Back into history for the third week of the workshops, it's the Drama Time Machine where every day a different period is visited so that we meet some ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Victorians and host of others, some more recent. Who knows what will happen if Julius Caesar meets Elvis or if Pharaoh comes across a World War Two evacuee?
Towards the end of the month Terry Pratchetts Mort, adapted by librettist Jenifer Toksvig and composer Dominic Haslam, has been transformed into a musical to be performed by the Youth Music Theatre UK.
At Chichesters Minerva Theatre the World Premiere of Ronald Harwoods Collaboration continues through August, in tandem with its companion piece Taking Sides, which premiered there in 1995 with Michael Pennington playing the part of interrogator Major Arnold. Now Pennington returns to play Wilhelm Furtwängler, a famous conductor under cross-examination after the Second World War
The Music Man continues in the Festival Theatre until the end of August.
At Wokings New Victoria Theatre Beatlemania is back with All You Need is Love, a musical celebration of the swinging 60s, and at the end of August a fun filled musical adventure for young children Cbeebies at the Theatre.
The Hawth at Crawley hosts a Dance Summer School for 8 to 13 years olds, Flying High a Pictorial History of Gatwick by the Crawley Museum Society, and Lazy Town Live, The show with Go. Circuswurx Summer School is for 8 to 16 year olds to learn circus skills, and there is a Summer Dance Workshop for 9 to 18 year olds. Reporter: Sheila Connor
