Everyman announces Eric's castLiverpool's Everyman Theatre has announced the casting for its new musical Eric's by Mark Davies Markham, writer of the Boy George musical Taboo, about a small Liverpool club that inspired a generation of musicians, artists and writers. The principal cast includes Graham Bickley, Joey in the later series of Carla Lane's Liverpool sitcom Bread and Olivier Award nominee for his performance in Ragtime, along with Stephen Fletcher, Rosalie Craig, Dean Kelly, Lesley Nicol, Katy Dean, James Rigby and Ciaran Kellgren. Several stars of the local music scene in the 1980s appear as characters in the show, including Echo and the Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch, played by Peter Caulfield, and band member Will Sergeant, played by Masterchef finalist and Brookside and Holby City actor Mark Moraghan. Teardrop Explodes singer Julian Cope is played by Oliver Jackson, Mighty Wah singer Pete Wylie is played by Sam Donovan, Pete Burns of Dead or Alive is played by Stuart Ellis and Big In Japans Jayne Casey is played by Iris Roberts. The production runs at the Everyman from 19 September to 11 October. Alternative tour of OrdsallThe Lowry's Walkabout project, working with people in different areas of Salford, takes members of the public on double-decker buses for an alternative tourist guide of Ordsall on Sunday 10 August. The buses will stop off at film screenings, photography exhibitions and contemporary dance performances, focusing on issues of regeneration and cataloguing places that are important to the people of Ordsall, from churches and parks to street corners and benches. Details of performances, venues and departure times for the free buses can be found on the Walkabout web page. NW productionsHeartbreak Productions will perform classic cross-dressing farce Charley's Aunt by Brandon Thomas at Fletcher Moss Gardens in Didsbury from 7 to 20 August. The Norfox Young People's Theatre Company at the Library Theatre in Manchester will perform Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle in a translation by WH Auden on 8 and 9 August, directed by the Library's community and education director Liz Postlethwaite.
