What a Cheek!Dateline: 24th December, 2003In a news item I read today (but haven't carried on the news pages - for obvious reasons!), Victoria Beckham has announced that, if her solo music career is not successful (she has a single coming out next week), she will take up fashion or acting. What a flaming cheek! Now it may be that she has some previous training - other ex-members of the Spice Girls do - but that automatic assumption that, because she has been some success in one field of performance, she will automatically be able to act annoys me intensely. Whilst there is no doubt that the best actors have an innate ability, they also undergo a great deal of training, developing their natural talents and learning the vast range of skills which they will need for a successful career. They begin, normally, in minor roles and grow into the major ones. And along comes a failed (or failing) pop singer and says she will become an actress.
