Playhouse “holds a very important place in my heart”: Sir Paul Smith

Nottinghamshire-born fashion designer Sir Paul Smith is to take part in two “in conversation” events to raise money for Nottingham Playhouse.

Sir Paul approached the theatre to offer his support after Nottingham city council decided on a 100% cut to its grants to the cultural sector.

He said, “Nottingham Playhouse holds a very important place in my heart. Believe it or not I’m actually old enough to remember it being opened! My business was started in Nottingham and I continue to employ a lot of people there.”

The Playhouse’s chief executive Stephanie Sirr commented, “we were thrilled to receive Sir Paul’s generous offer of support as he’s a Nottingham-born creative icon who’s done so much to showcase and support creativity in the city, the UK and internationally.

“These unique events will offer a really special opportunity for people to get a personal insight into Sir Paul’s career and mindset while supporting our charitable work.”

Nottingham-born journalist and author Richard Williams will put questions to Sir Paul about his inspiration, career and “extraordinary impact on the global fashion industry” in An Audience with Sir Paul Smith on Tuesday 15 October at 4 and 7PM.
